Building a Seamless User Journey: AI, Engagement & Compliance

Coca-Cola set out to create a digital experience that would bring its vision of the future to life. With Y3000, they wanted not only a new flavor but a bold experiment in AI-powered engagement. As Design Lead, I played a key role in shaping the user experience for the Coca-Cola Y3000 AI campaign. In the early phases, I created UX artifacts that established a seamless workflow, ensuring the experience met creative, technical, and legal constraints.

The biggest challenge was balancing engagement, AI-driven creativity, and compliance while addressing unique requirements:

  • Mobile-first interaction – Users had to be able to capture a photo directly via a mobile web browser.

  • Continuous hero animation – The animation needed to persist throughout the experience, maintaining a dynamic feel.

  • AI-driven styling – The photo stylization process had to be fun, surprising, and visually compelling.

  • Managing wait time – Since AI processing took 10 seconds on average, we designed distraction techniques to make the wait feel seamless and engaging.

  • Safety & compliance – AI-generated visuals could rarely but potentially be inappropriate for minors, requiring built-in safeguards.

  • Global readiness – The experience had to be localized for 27 languages and designed for a simultaneous launch in 33 countries with region-specific adaptations.

Visual Development: Designing a Futuristic, Yet Intuitive Experience

While we were defining how the experience functioned, another crucial track focused on its visual identity. We aimed to create a look and feel that embodied the AI-driven future Coca-Cola envisioned—futuristic yet familiar enough to keep users oriented. Over three weeks of intense feedback and iteration loops with the team and client, we refined and solidified the final design direction.

One of the biggest UX challenges was making the AI-generated video feel seamless despite a 10-second processing delay. Instead of leaving users idle, we explored interactive waiting experiences—subtle animations, dynamic progress cues, and playful interactions—to keep them engaged and reduce perceived wait time.

Key Challenges & Solutions


  • Preserving the Hero Animation – The mnemonic animation, central to the AI experience, needed to maintain pristine quality while persisting as a recognizable symbol throughout the journey.

  • Performance Optimization – The experience combined flattened animations, real-time visual processing, and interactive elements, requiring extensive trial and error to ensure smooth performance.

  • Responsive Design Constraints – Typically, a few breakpoints would cover most mobile devices, but since the final video asset was locked at a 9:16 aspect ratio with embedded critical information, we had to apply a highly customized responsive approach to ensure seamless adaptability.

  1. Landing Screen: The First Impression

    • Purpose: This is the user's entry point, setting the tone for the AI-powered experience.

    • Design Considerations: It needed to be visually captivating, convey the futuristic branding, and make the call-to-action (CTA) instantly clear.

    • Impact: A seamless onboarding flow ensured users understood the experience at a glance and were motivated to proceed.

  2. Intro Screen: Setting Expectations

    • Purpose: To guide users through the experience while reinforcing Coca-Cola’s AI-powered future theme.

    • Design Considerations: Striking the right balance between informative and interactive, keeping users engaged without overwhelming them.

    • Impact: Users stayed engaged and curious, setting them up for a smooth transition into the AI transformation process.

  3. Result Screen: The AI-Generated Payoff

    • Purpose: This is the final reveal, where users see their AI-generated future world, designed to be both delightful and shareable.

    • Design Considerations: Ensuring the output was visually striking, surprising yet cohesive, and optimized for social sharing.

    • Impact: Encouraged social sharing and organic reach, turning users into brand advocates by making them eager to post their AI-generated results.
